The Land of Elyon Book 1
The Dark Hills Divide by Patrick Carman: The Land of Elyon books are a great read, but especially for children. They have adventure and talking beasts and colorful new friends in every book. And there’s always a sense of mystery that needs to be solved… I suggest this book to anyone who loves to read, and even those who don’t. They are quick and easy, but entertaining.
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater: Is an excellent read! Maggie Stiefvater captures moments and people expertly in her novel Shiver. All the twists and turns leave you wanting more, and you can have more in her second book Linger which still leaves you with a sense of wonder. She definitely won’t fail to deliver if this book coming out in July is anything like the other two. The characters are lovable instantly, and the plot line is intense.
The Shadow Of The Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon: This book is full of mystery! An exciting tale that leaves you wanting more than just an overview off the Internet. Carlos Ruiz Zafon keeps you guessing to the end! The novel shifts and twirls in whole new directions taking you deeper into the story then you could ever believe possible. If you like suspense, action, love, betrayal, book burnings and things that go bump in the night this is the book for you.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: This novel is so interesting! In the viewpoint of death, wary, and tired of humans, he tells of three times he sees one girl. Its time and place is World War Two, very traumatic. I absolutely loved this book! The girl in the story is a book thief, stealing books from Nazi book burnings even. It gives you an insight into the children’s lives during World War Two. The whole concept of this book is enthralling and it’s a must read for everyone. Movie Reviews
PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDESREVIEW
Johnny Depp is back in this action packed sequel to the hit trilogy that began just 8 years ago and it was no less than the perfect idea for a sequel. I confess, I’d only seen the first when I went to see this one, but to my surprise, I didn’t have many questions. Basically, if this is your first Pirates movie, don’t expect to be too lost in the story. That being said the chemistry between Depp and his female counterpart and the lovely Ms. Penelope Cruz was phenomenal, and as he always has, Depp delivered a breath taking performance. In fact, all the actors and actresses appeared not only to have good chemistry, but they were having fun with their acting which for me, always makes a movie better.
Furthermore, the timing throughout the storyline was impeccable, and never really left you uninterested. You were laughing, focused, or intrigued the whole time. Historically, if you’re in to pirate lore, there were some… creative liberties taken on some of the old tales, but not enough for me to care. Now this being a bit of a critique, I do have to, be a little negative, and I do have a few sore spots. The action scenes, while they were fun, were fun in much the same way a Spiderman action scenes are fun. You sit there and you can only help but think to yourself “Wow that’s awesome! Too bad it isn’t physically possible.” Also, some scenes were predictable, just based on common cinematic knowledge. With all this in mind, I give you my final report. The movie was a blast to see, but don’t pay to see it in 3D. It’s just not worth it. The 3D that is, not the movie. I give it a solid B+/A- and would recommend it if you’re looking for a humorous action combo pack movie.
In an age where comic book heroes are coming back to life in the cinemas this movie certainly gets a bright green light from me (see what I did there… it’s punny). Anyways, I adored this movie. From the acting to the powers and just everything in between. I’m not gonna lie, when I saw Reynolds playing a superhero, a role that to be done right definitely requires a more serious actor, I was nervous. I never pictured him being capable of staying serious, or really being the superhero type at all, but he managed to pull it off superbly, and I loved how well he portrayed the character.
This all being said bit two, as it was before, has to be a rant. So let me look deep into this movie which I enjoyed all too much to have any idea what to hate. This movie, being a superhero movie, is just that. A superhero movie. This means, if you’re the type not to watch a movie if you think it’s going to be predictable, this might not be the movie for you. Also, for old time Green Lantern fans, especially those of you who don’t like it when movies touch comic books, steer clear, because there are visible changes.
So for the conclusive statement, watch it. Heck, I’d even pay to see it in 3D, some of the special effects could be sweet. It’s pulled down by a few things but nevertheless, worth seeing in theaters. I give it a solid A-, no questions asked.
